Introduction
Start the journey of planting and growing trees equivalent to your age as you take decisive steps to replenish different key areas of your life. Launched by the UNESCO world water ambassador, late former president of Kenya H.E. Mwai Kibaki, Plant Your Age is a global call to Climate Action for Individuals and Corporate Organizations to plant and grow trees equivalent to their age.
Dr. Kalua Green and H.E. William Ruto after establishing the 1st Wangari Maathai Green Corner
When Laureate Prof. Wangari Maathai passed on, Green Africa Foundation founder and chairperson Dr Isaac Kalua Green urged Kenyans to plant 71 trees each to mark every year of her life and to commemorate her efforts in sustainable development, democracy and peace.
Kenyans from all walks of life heeded this call and established “Wangari Maathai Green Corners” in various parts of the country. The first one was established by then Minister for Agriculture H.E. William Ruto and various dignitaries at the University of Nairobi’s Wangari Maathai Institute located in Lower Kabete. This concept evolved to today’s rallying call “Plant Your Age” Day.
Plant Your Age KWS Campaign
On the 17th November 2012 at Kenya Wildlife Service – Nairobi National Park, Plant Your Age in partnership with KWS, UNEP, KFS, Rotary Clubs of Kenya, Safaricom, Sunflag Textiles, Serena Hotels among others organized a tree planting exercise to encourage each person to plant trees according to their age in order to accelerate the achievement of the 10% national forest cover by the year 2030.
Partnership With The Japanese Government
Green Africa Foundation, an environmental organization that has been working with grassroots communities in various parts of Kenya partners with the Japanese Government to complete a water project in Isangwa village of Central Division, Kitui County. After signing the agreement with the Ambassador of Japan in Kenya, H.E. Mr. Toshihisa Takata, Green Africa Foundation chairperson and founder, Dr. Isaac Kalua, said the grant would enable his organization to establish water storage and supply facilities. The signing ceremony was held at the embassy in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
Plant Your Age in Partnership with Mhasibu Sacco Society
In partnering for Climate Action, Plant Your Age enabled Mhasibu Sacco Society Limited to celebrate their 34th Anniversary by planting 50trees at Nairobi Primary School (34 symbolic trees to represent their age, 3 planted by the Senior-Management and Chief Guest and 13 assorted fruit trees).
The Official Plant Your Age Day
Exactly one year after the unofficial day was set, September 14th is confirmed as the official #PLANTYOURAGE day. It is a day dedicated to the physical acts of planting and growing trees equivalent to your age and to the individual embrace of what trees represent. The day brings together individuals, corporate institutions and government to take part in a noble exercise ton plant trees for the betterment of our environment.
Plant Your Age takes part in the 7th annual devolution conference, 2021
The Devolution Conference was held in Makueni County from the 23rd to the 26th of November 2021. Green Africa foundation had a privileged to be among the 270 plus exhibitors during the conference. It had a booth and it managed to sell its agendas on environmental protection and particularly the Plant Your Age Campaign to over 500 individuals, county governments, parastatals and cooperates. The 7th Annual Devolution Conference focused on Multi-Level Governance for Climate Action, with a specific emphasis on sub -national mobilization in unlocking the full potential of climate action.
Plant Your Age Day - Homabay County
On 14th September 2022, Plant Your Age shall celebrate the official Plant Your Age Day in Homabay County by planting 1881 trees to represent the total number of elected leaders in the country. The event shall be held at Arina Primary School, Unga Village, Ndhiwa sub County in partnership with Kenya Forest service, Green Africa Group, County Centre for Climate Change, KIPPRA and the County Government of Homabay.

Plant Your Age Initiative
This is an initiative that focuses on individuals of all walks of life to plant trees equivalent to their age and ensure that they grow as a way of working towards realising the 10% tree cover as articulated in the Kenyan Constitution 2010 and in Vision 2030. It is an initiative that runs through the entire short rain season every year.
